Prof. Mauro Dolce
Technical Manager
Mauro Dolce is currently Director General of the Italian Department of Civil Protection (DPC) - Seismic Risk Section since December 2006. He is also Full Professor (1994-) of Structural Engineering at the University of Naples Federico II (2007-). He had the chair of Earthquake Engineering at the University of Basilicata (1994-2006) and was the Head of the Department of Structures, Soil Mechanics and Engineering Geology (1995–2002), the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Engineering (1999-2002), the Head of the Laboratory of Structural and Earthquake Engineering (1999-2006). He was the President of RELUIS (Italian Network of Earthquake Engineering Laboratories) (2005-2006). His research activity has been mainly related to Earthquake and Structural Engineering problems, mostly dealing with the seismic behaviour and vulnerability of masonry and R/C buildings and of bridges, the use of advanced materials (high dissipation rubber, shape memory alloys, stainless steel) and techniques (passive control) for the seismic protection of bridges and buildings, with particular concern on seismic retrofitting techniques. This activity results in more than 300 papers, published on national and international reviews and conference proceedings. As the Director of the Seismic Risk Office at DPC, he has been deeply involved in the coordination of the emergency technical management of the 2009 L’Aquila earthquake, dealing with the damage assessment of buildings and other technical activities and being the responsible of the Project C.A.S.E. He has also coordinated the post-earthquake in-field activities of many scientific institutions collaborating to the civil protection activities, being currently the responsible of the contracts with the Centres of Competences for Seismic Risk, such as INGV (Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia), ReLUIS and EUCENTRE (European Centre for Training and Research in Earthquake Engineering). Among them, he carried the coordination of the seismic microzonation of the most damaged areas. Professor Dolce is or was also: Member of the Executive Committees of the European Association for Earthquake Engineering EAEE (2002) and of the Antiseismic Systems International Society (ASSISi) (2002-2007); Member of the Steering Committees of the Italian National Association for Earthquake Engineering ANIDIS and of the Working Group for Seismic Isolations GLIS (1995-2007); Member of several international (CEN, ISO) and national boards for seismic regulations; Coordinator of EAEE-TG3 (Task Group 3 - "Seismic Risk and Earthquake Scenarios") (1990) and of ENSeRVES (European Network for Seismic Risk, Vulnerability and Earthquake Scenarios 1997-2001), of the GEM (Global Earthquake Model) Governing Board (2008).
